YOU and Google's new privacy policy

I am sure you have seen the new privacy policy agreement from Google that was flashed on the home screen of Google, on your Gmail and any Google service that you might be using. If you still haven't read(who reads those any way),

I am not gonna talk about western world that lives in its own dreamland and also has much better cyber laws. This article is about people who live on countries that have close to zero cyber laws and where you can buy anything with money. Full disclaimer: I am a Google Fanboy. So read this with a pinch of salt. :-)

There are two major implications of this for common people like us in developing countries.

Google data integration across domains:

Google is integrating the data collection about YOU across its all the Google services that you use. Their argument is they will be able to provide more personalized service for you. A "like" in a youtube movie may be used to show you an advertisement, as you read your emails.

This is essentially not bad. Few reasons:

1. None of us till today has complained about Google advertisements and we in countries like India want "free service". Paying for emails is just going to shut the usage of Internet. So we will have to take this pill.

2. Google always says they never sell the data to others. In the sense, advertisement regarding a "discount on soap" that you use may come as you search for something, but your retailer or the manufacturer will never about YOU as a person and what you like.

3. I (as a fan boy) believe on Google's "Don't be evil" until today. There are few concerns (that you will see below), but overall Google is better than other companies. If I ever was "forced" to surrender my data to someone, It will be Google. So you can be assured that any deviation from these policies will be known to people before they get implemented. Transparency is the key.

Where do I think this data integration is not good?

1. Giving bits and pieces of information to someone is lot different from having them integrated in one place. You can't wear a mask to google now. Common man doesn't think a lot about privacy and uses same email address (usually gmail) across internet. What music you like to when is the last time you searched about malaria, where you like to Dine, everything is known to Google. Think twice. It is like a magic box that if questioned about one's tastes, it correctly lists out. There are lot of privacy concerns here. What if Google is hacked?

2.Bending for the governments is something all the corporate companies do. They need to answer to their shareholders. Google can't run away from a market like India. (China is a different story). This is exactly where volume is, tomorrow's growth is. Google is already redirecting blogspot.com to blogspot.in, so that it can ban something in a specific country. Now with all this in mind, think about Indian Government asking for a specific person's data. Google will oblige and we all may not know about it. Can it be used in court of law? May not be today. But what if Government changes laws to do that, what do we do? Ok, that might sound like a far fetched story. Now think this way. You are a popular person in a small town, someone wants to spoil your name. They bribe the Indian government folks and indirectly google hands the data to these criminals. (This "could" even contain the information about your health.).

3. Google turning into a regular corporate company and "dont be evil" stays only on paper. Though I dont believe this, as Google becomes a bigger company, there might be people who might take short cuts. (There is already a story in Africa where google did a nasty wok). There might be things that are done in not so transparent way and we might never know about it. Google might be selling data to P&G and you might be getting direct emails from them. This relates back to point 2 as well. Google Indian team might take different stand from corporate to show growth in India.

G+ Over others:

Apart from the data integration, second impact is that, google came up with how it shows the search results. Now G+ takes more precedence over Facebook, Twitter and other results. This is most probably not harmful to you as end user. But this is a trap. This forces you to use G+ to be more social. Basically Google is using it's search capability to force you to use it's other products. You should use a product, because you like it. Not because Google forces it. Gmail was good example. People switched from yahoo and hotmail as the product was better, not because Google forced it. So making G+ better should be the way to go and not this. Many tech journalists feel Google overstepped on this one killing it's "Don't be evil" policy. I think I agree to an extent here.

One suggestion to you is, make sure you log out of people, if you are going to do some search, some net surfing that you don't want Google to track. Remember this because many of us don't logout of Google at all. Incognito window would be better.

Need your help

Summer of 2004 was an unforgettable one for me. It was the hottest summer, as I saw the sun more than in any other summer. Times when I thought I am on a verge of something,either i am gonna be very successful or utter failure, times when i thought my life was more like a lottery. Yes, I was searching for a job. The general thought is that "if you have the talent, you should get a job easily". If India's 1990s had BComs and BScs storming the job market, 2000s had BEs. I agree that hiring was on its high in 2004s. Even then we(most of my friends and yours truly) weren't 'fully qualified' to be readily hired by the 'Indian biggies' in IT, even by the smaller companies, forget those MNCs like IBM.

I came from a college where campus interviews were unheard of. A college which is located just outside Madurai. Those days, we didn't even know what kind of work is done in IT companies. When we all set ourselves to start job search, it was more like how you will search a house for rent. Nothing planned, no definite path setup. We knew one thing, we should get a job before next time we go to our town or village. We all had good scores in colleges and a little bit of technical brilliance in us. We knew C and C++ better than English. We thought to work in Indian IT that is what is needed, right? My father works in postal department where language of communication is English. So we thought a little more English that my father had should work. Little we know that we are almost disqualified moment someone hears our English.We didn't even think about other options like higher education. Even within IT, we had less knowledge on areas like Testing where many of us would have shined easily.

Again and again many of us failed in interviews and came home with a dropped head. The entire room will brainstorm on what went wrong in that Interview, but we could never come out with definitive answer. Because we simply didn't have the understanding of what was the selection criterion were. We answered that our hobby was reading(because that sounded decent than cooking or gardening, which was the real hobby). When the interviewer started asking about "What exactly you read", the only answer we had was "Kumudam and Aananda Vikatan". We declared ourselves as sportsperson without even knowing to play any other game other than cricket. Even in Cricket, which was supposed to be our passion as per the resume, we didn't know to point out the "square leg" or a "point" position on a cricket ground picture. Looking back, I feel it was a sheer luck and that my peer community didn't have better standards than me that got my first job. The interviewer most probably thought Senthil's analytical ability was good enough to hire him in spite of his bad body languages/communication skills and everything else that was going against him.

So where am I getting here? Yes summer of 2012 is 8 years ahead of 2004. But little has changed in colleges around Madurai. We still have students who don't understand IT companies and who don't have confidence/communication skills/data points to face the Interviews. I wanted to help them out. With the little experience I have on this Industry, with a lot of help from others like you. There are already people who are working for this cause, we can talk to them, learn from their experiences and do our part. I wanted to something about this in 2009, but I was in USA and didn't pursue this. http://ponniyinselvan-mkp.blogspot.com/2009/11/blog-post_23.html was the triggering point that time.

So what are the next few steps I am planning?

1. Talk to the placement officers of few colleges around Madurai.
2. Try to get a weekend session organized in these colleges and meet the students first. Talk to them about their plans and take couple of sessions(totally unorganized sessions, no ppt) on resumes and Interviews.
3. Understand what they want and then try to organize more people who have that kind of capability to help them out.
4. Follow up with them as they start this summer with job search.
5. If possible forward some of those resumes to HR of the companies where we work/where we have friends.

I know that this is more of open ended idea than something which is fully formed. But my past experience says that when I close out an idea with all the ends decided, it is usually ends up in a dead end with not much of support. So this time I will listen to all the other ideas. I want to start it somewhere around Pongal, so that we have enough time before the educational year comes to an end.

Why Madurai? The first set of people who said OK to me for this idea are from my college and from Madurai. So if you want to do this in other areas, we can do it and learn as a group.

Why is this post in English instead of in Tamil? I am hoping that people who are non-tamilians who are in TN will also participate.

Thank You - My Turtle Neck CEO

It was a morning that I will remember for a long time. Woke up to my tweets as any day and saw one tag occupying more than 50% of tweets, #RIPSteveJobs. Steve has made a big impact on me in the last few years. This will be my tribute to Steve including some instances where I thought he should have done it differently.

Steve Jobs was someone who kept most of the things about him in private. For someone who was well known for his stage presence, we don't have many videos of him on this digital age except for the famous Stanford speech of 2005. He told his biographer that he was doing the biography for his children to understand how much he loved them. Imagine you understanding your father through a book. So what we are left with is just perceptions about him. Many of his fans believe that his biography will come out with the message that Steve wanted to give to this world, I don't think so. He preserved details about him in private for the time he lived and he was not going to leave that to fall apart after he is gone. This big disclaimer para is because, some of his fans may not agree with some stuff mentioned here.

Steve was a great example of how your passion for work can take you to heights. I don't think he even considered his life at Apple as work. He lived through it. You can argue on how lucky he was in 2007 for the technology to improve to get a phone that can be a mini-computer. But life has been tough on him than it was easy on him. Being fired out of the company he founded, getting back into the company when it was in worst phase of its entire life and then his cancer. He fought all of them and he did come out as the most successful (i)CEO of the last few decades. Steve will always be remembered for making Personal computer & Mobiles accessible to the common person who didn't understand what programming is. Yes, he didn't sell as many Macs as PCs or as of today his iPhones don't sell as much as Androids, but both Google/Microsoft did learn a lot from Apple products. Nothing to deny on that. (Same way he has taken notes from them as well).

Thank you Steve for those perfect products.

Steve means perfection in tech world. A product from Apple may be costly, but it will be perfect based on the technology available at that time. Every Apple product was an apple with the first bite consumed by Steve. And he always wanted the best. Anything lesser than that will go to trash. I thank Steve for leaping ahead with iDevices. I do think Google/Microsoft would have done it, but he pushed everyone years ahead to come up with new technology. There are stories around Internet how hard he was on his employees. He didn't even think his customers know what they want. He did have the intuition of what will sell/what will be in need. He just saw the future as clear as we see the past. I think there would be few decisions that he regretted in his professional life. (I am not talking about his family life, as none of us will ever know how much he loved them & stories on Internet about someone's family are the last one's you should believe).

Thank you Steve for setting the standards high for entire Industry.

Steve was one person who had instincts of future. He did know to create an ecosystem that so many liked(though I have different thoughts on that ecosystem). He did Innovate on hardware/Software/iTunes/Retail model/App Ecosystem and many more. Many articles have been written on other Innovations he did, but less on the Retail outlets. Retail outlet is one for which he is credited less. But he was so bold to put Apple retail shops on towns & cities of US, with so much of risk attached to it. On hindsight it looks like the perfect move, getting those Apple products on the hands of people. It did make them realize that it just works. :)Apple didn't pay dividends for shareholders in the last decade. Apple has taken risks that would have reduced shareholder value to nothing. Steve did practice different type of capitalism where he didn't run to show quarterly results. His shareholders just have to believe him like his customers believed him. And as his customers always got a product that works, his shareholders saw their share value go up as years passed by. Apple was valued at $ 7Billion in 1998 to $ 340Billion today. That talks about the confidence of his investors on him and Apple. Steve had Eric Schmidt of Google on Apple's board even when both the companies started building capabilities in overlapping areas. So either Steve believed Eric completely not to use the info that Eric learned as board member to use against Apple or he did not even share many of his visions with the board as well.

Steve has been criticized for his lack of philanthropic activities when compared to Gates.(Though I don't buy it. Give a break. He earned every dollar of it).

Steve was a good CEO. Steve created a cult culture for digital products. Steve was good in marketing. He was known to sell things. Even though I have said above that Apple products of high standards, there are cases where Steve did hold on to a feature because of various business reasons. Apple has a closed ecosystem of apps which has hurted app developers sometimes. (Lead times/Rejections with no reasons/Censorship). I also think Apple as a company didn't help much to the entire ecosystem of digital world. In most cases, Apple either wanted to use the standard that it says or just won't support it. Flash is an example. When there were millions of pages on Flash, Steve strictly said no to Adobe flash. I am sure he had his own reasons like battery life, HTML5 is way forward and so on. But it did hurt so many flash game developers. 30% cut that he wanted on everything that is sold through iDevices just shows his business skills. He acted like a shrewd businessman in many a times than as a Innovator who brings the world the magic of his innovation. Ideally he should be the case study of Harvard Business school than of digital innovation world. To me his legacy after all the dust settles after many years will be his talent as a CEO than as a digital icon. He recruited good talent, did know how to get work done from them, had an intuition for the future, did know to market his products and did know to build a business model on top of it. Mostly they are CEO thing, not a techie thing. Hopefully you will understand that I don't add him as just another person, but he is also not someone who is like super hero. There are lot of things that he would have done in a better way. Still,

Mangalore Flight Crash - run(a)way

Flights crash every now and then. When it happened in Poland, when it happened Libya, it was a news to me. I read it, felt bad for the people who died or injured, even before I would try to dig more details of the victims, another news in Google News will capture my eyes, may be that HTML5 which Apple/Google tries to promote or that "Ravanan" movie that is gonna get released next month. The accidents like this don't affect me as much as they did few years back. They are becoming part of daily news that I read and i am developing a resistance to these news. They don't break my heart or make me feel bad for the entire day. Is it good or bad? I don't know. It might sound like inhuman to accept this feeling in public. But to whom am I hiding this? why should I artificially sound concerned, if I am really not? I don't know. May be a topic of discussion for another day.

First my prayers for the victims and condolences to the family members who lost their dear ones. Life is not replaceable. I pray to god to give them strength to overcome this.

But this particular crash brought my concerns back. With so many of my friends using this Airport so frequently that, the thought of 'probably' losing one of them strikes me so hard.I am forced to learn more about this. Why would this happen? Is it because of the uniqueness of the TableTop runway or is it just a human error? Because the pilot is a contractor instead of AI employee? Will we ever know the truth here? I can blame it on that god, when something like an earthquake/Tsunami happens. But whom will I blame here? Yes, I hear you. Statistically Air travel is still safer than all other modes of transportation. But that doesn't mean we lose our focus to correct the problems here.

Given below is the map of the Airport:

The horizontal runway is the older one and the one with 45 Degree inclination is the new one where the flight landed. It is at least 8000 Feet long and is enough for the flights in the caliber of Boeing 737-8HG, the one that is involved in crash. Pilot has landed the same flight in same runway 19 times and the co-pilot has done that 66 times. So the terrain is not new to them. Even with the 2000 feet overshot, he should have enough runway left to land the flight, may be he would have hit the sand dune at the end of the runway. (This dune is not big or wide like it is in other airports,
but it is there). But looks like he moved out of runway due to some reason. Most channels blamed the Pilot for the accident. But to me that is just to find the instant scapegoat for the accident. It is very sad that media who are supposed to play a constructive role, play this kind of cheap publicity stunts.

Anyway i just have couple of questions. Hopefully we will get answers for it...

1. People sitting in different areas of the flight have survived? If we had any better technology/survival mechanisms, was there a possibility to increase this number?

2. Was there any problem with this particular airplane? I never believe companies like Boeing, as they might sell not the best-in-class stuff to companies like AI which has very less accountability.

While the English channels where finding scapegoats, there was one good analysis in a Kannada Channel. It was simple enough for anyone to understand. Good job guys.

மங்களூர் விமான விபத்து

மங்களூர்..நான் வாழ்ந்த ஊர்களில் மிகவும் அமைதியான நகரம். சிறு சிறு மத கலவரங்கள் தவிர்த்து பல மொழிகள் (கன்னடம், மலையாளம்,துளு,கொங்கனி,ஹிந்தி) பேசும், பல மதங்களை சேர்ந்தோர் சேர்ந்து வாழும் இடம். என்றேனும் மங்களூர் பற்றி ஒரு பதிவு போடவேணும் என்று எண்ணம் உண்டு.வரைவில் சில குறிப்புகள் குறித்து வைத்திருந்தேன். நான் பார்த்த ஆள் அரவம் அற்ற கடற்கரைகள், எந்நேரமும் பரபரத்துக்கொண்டு ஓடும் உள்ளூர் பேருந்துகள், நேர்மையான ஆட்டோகாரர்கள் (நான் இன்போசிசில் வேலை செய்பவன் என்று தெரியும் வரை!!), பாக்கெட் மணி தினம் ஆயிரம் என்ற அளவில் செலவு செய்யும் கல்லூரி பசங்க/பொண்ணுங்க(துபாய், பாம்பே பணம்), அழகான பெண்கள், அடித்துப் பெய்யும் மழை, நான் பார்த்த பெரிய பாம்புகள் என்று பல குறிப்புகள். இவை எல்லாம் நான் பொத்தி பாதுகாத்த நினைவுகள். என் மூளையின் நெடுங்கால ஞாபக அறைகளில் பூட்டி வைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளவை. நினைக்க மறந்தாலும் மறக்க நினைக்கப்படாதவை.

ஆனால் இந்த பதிவு மேலே சொன்ன எதை பற்றியும் அல்ல. இது நேற்று (21-மே-2010 ) நடந்த விமான விபத்து பற்றியது. காலை 6:30 மணி. பனி மூட்டம் இல்லை. மழை இல்லை. (லைலா அந்தப்பக்கம் சென்றிருந்தால் விமானம் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டிருக்குமோ என்று எண்ணாமல் இருக்க முடியவில்லை). விமானம் தரை இறங்கும் ஓடுபாதையில் எந்த பிரச்சனையும் இருந்ததாக தெரியவில்லை. இந்த விமானி இதே விமானதளத்தில் இதே விமானத்தை பத்தொன்பது தடவை இறக்கியுள்ளார். சகவிமானி 66 தடவை இறக்கி உள்ளார். எனவே இது ஒன்றும் மிக சாதாரண தொழிநுட்பக் கோளாறாய் தெரியவில்லை.

முதலில் விமானத்தள அமைப்பை பாப்போம்.
நேர்கோட்டில் தெரிவது பழைய ஓடுதளம். 45 டிகிரி கோட்டில் தெரிவது 2006-யில் திறக்கப்பட்ட புது ஓடுதளம். புது ஓடுதளத்தின் நீளம் இரண்டு கிலோமீட்டர். விபத்துக்குள்ளான விமானம் தரை இறங்க இது போதும். இதற்கும் மேல் ஓடுதள முடிவில் மணல் குன்று ஒன்றும் செயற்கையாக உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.(மற்ற விமான தளங்களில் உள்ளது போல பெரிய மணல் குன்று இல்லை என்றாலும், சிறிய அளவில் உள்ளது). பின் ஓடுதளத்தில் உள்ள அபாயம் என்ன? ஓடுதளம் ஒரு குன்றின் மேல் உள்ளது. ஆங்கிலத்தில் இதை "Tabletop" என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். எனவே ஒரு சிறு தவறு கூட பெரும் சேதத்தை ஏற்படுத்தலாம். கம்பியின் மேல் நடப்பது போல. கரணம் தப்பினால் மரணம். எனவே இங்கு புதிதாய் வரும் விமான நிறுவங்களுக்கு இதற்காவே தனியாய் பயிற்சி நடப்பதாய் சொல்கிறார்கள். நன்கு அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த விமானிகளே இங்கு தரை இறக்க அனுமதிக்க படுவதாய் சொல்கிறார்கள். (இந்த சம்பவத்தில் அது உண்மையாய் தான் தெரிகிறது).

விமானி 2000 அடி தள்ளி தரைதொட்டுளார். ஏன்? தெரியவில்லை.

மொத்த 8000 அடி ஓடுதளத்தில், விமானம் இறங்க தேவை 6000-7000 அடிகள்.அவர் 2000 அடிகள் தள்ளி தரை இறங்கியதாலும், வேறு சில(?) காரணங்கள் (விமானம் நேர்கோட்டில் இல்லாமல், வலது பக்கம் சிறிது தள்ளி சென்றுவிட்டதாக ஒரு உறுதிபடுத்தபடாத தகவல்),
காரணமாக, விமானி ஓடுதளத்தில் இருந்து விலகி விமானத்தை செலுத்தி உள்ளார். குன்றின் மேல் ஓடுதளம் உள்ளதால், விமானம் குன்றில் இருந்து கீழே விழுந்து வெடித்து சிதறியது.

இப்படி உடனடியாக யார் மேலும் குற்றம் சொல்ல முடியாத நிலையில், விமானத்தின் கருப்பு பெட்டி கிடைக்கும் வரை எந்த முடிவுக்கும் நாம் வர முடியாது. இது தெரிந்தும் பல ஆங்கில செய்தி தொலைகாட்சிகள் யார் மேலாவது பழியை போட துடித்துக்கொண்டு இருகின்றன. வருத்தமான விஷயம்.

விமானி "Air India"வின் தொழிலாளி இல்லை என்றும், அவர் வெளி நிறுவனம் ஒன்றில் வேலை பார்பதாகவும், Contract அடிப்படையில் இந்த விமானத்தை இயக்குவதாகும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இதுவும் கூட விபத்துக்கு காரணமாய் இருக்கலாமோ என்று கேள்வி உள்ளது. அவர் தன் மீது குற்றம் வந்து விட கூடாது என்று, அவசரத்தில் விமானத்தை ஓடுபாதையில் இருந்து திருப்பி விட்டதாய் கூறப்படுகிறது!!! எனக்கு இந்த வாதத்தில் நம்பிக்கை இல்லை. அவர் கடைசி நொடிகளில் எடுத்த முடிவுகள் அவர் உயிரையே எடுக்கும் என்று அறிந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டவை. அதில் எப்படி அவர் தவறு செய்து இருக்க முடியும்? பலி ஆடு தேடும் செயல் இது என்றே எண்ணுகிறேன்.

எனவே முடிவுகளுக்கு செல்லாமல் நான் என் கேள்விகளை மட்டும் முன் வைக்கிறேன்.

விமானத்தில் கடவுள் அருளால் தப்பியவர்கள் விமானத்தின் நடுவில் அமர்ந்தவர்கள் மட்டும் இல்லை. ஏழாம், நாற்பத்தி ஐந்தாம் இருக்கையில் இருந்தவர்கள் தப்பி உள்ளனர். எனவே ஒரு சிலர் தப்பிக்க முடியும் என்றால், மற்றவர்கள் ஏன் முயலவில்லை? முன்னமே தெரிந்திருந்தால் அவர்களை காப்பற்ற வழிகள் உள்ளனவா? விமானி பயணிகளுக்கும் தகவல் மையத்திற்கும் தன் நிலை பற்றி முன்னரே விளக்கினாரா?

போயிங் ஏற் இந்தியாவிற்கு அளித்த விமானங்களில் ஏதேனும் கோளாறு இருக்க வாய்ப்புண்டா? இந்த நிறுவங்களை நான் என்றுமே நம்பியதில்லை. நாம் எல்லாம் இரெண்டாம் தர மக்கள் இவர்களுக்கு. போயிங் இந்த விசாரணையில் உதவி அளிப்பதாய் வாக்களித்து உள்ளது. ஆனால் அவர்களும் குற்றம் செய்து இருக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளது என்பதை விசாரணை செய்பவர்கள் மனதில் வைத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

ஓடுபாதையில் ஏதேனும் சிதைவு இருக்க வாய்ப்புண்டா?

ஆங்கில தொலைகாட்சிகள் பலி ஆடு தேடிக்கொண்டு இருக்க, ஒரு கன்னட தொலைக்காட்சியில் சிறப்பான அலசல் பார்த்தேன். கன்னடம் புரியாவிடினும் இந்த விடியோவை பாருங்கள். புரியும்.

சொல்வது எளிது. ஆனால் செயல்பட ஆரம்பித்த பின் தான் அதில் உள்ள கடினங்கள் புரிந்தன.

முதலில் "கூகிள் ரீடர்"யின் வெளியிடை ஓடையாக மாற்றுவது எப்படி?

இதற்க்கு நீங்கள் முதலில் நீங்கள் வாசிக்க நினைக்கும் வலைத்தளங்களை ஒரு மூட்டையாக கட்ட வேண்டும். கிழே உள்ள படத்தை பாருங்கள்.

இதில் உள்ள "create a bundle" என்பதை தேர்தெடுத்து மூட்டை கட்டுங்கள். பின் அந்த மூட்டை ஒரு கோப்பாக வரும். அந்த கோப்பை தேர்ந்தெடுத்து விட்டு, வலது பக்கம் மேலே "show details" சுட்டியை சொடுக்கினால், கீழ் உள்ள படத்தில் உள்ள படி உங்கள் "ATOM FEED" தெரியும். இது 'atom' ஊட்டம், இதை RSS-ஆக மாற்றினால் தான் செல்லினத்தில் படிக்க முடியும்.

எனவே உங்கள் atom ஊட்டத்தை நகல் எடுத்து கொண்டு, www.feedburner.com சென்று உங்கள் கூகிள் கணக்கின் முலமாக உள்சென்று, மேலே நகல் எடுத்த சுட்டியை ஓட்டினால், ஒரு சில கேள்விகளுக்கு பின், அது உங்களுக்கு ஒரு புது சுட்டி தரும்.

மேலே உள்ள "Feed Address"சை நகல் எடுத்து உங்கள் கைபேசியில் செல்லினத்தில் சென்று புது உட்டமாக கொடுத்து விட்டால், பின் உங்கள் பதிவுகள் அனைத்தும் அழகு தமிழில் உடைந்த ஜிலேபிகளாக இல்லாமல் படிக்கலாம்.

Usually when people move to India from here, they put a "moving sale" with the items they have and the price they expect.

I am moving to a new house (for rent only :)) within my town. I am staying in the current house for about three years. So I also sent a moving sale list. Read and remember, you need to reserve, if you want any of these items which will not be available anywhere else in the world. :-)

4	Indian Masalas.Smells good. But the expiry date in the packet says 2007, i have no idea why they expire soon.Yesterday my roomate used it on his briyani and he hasn’t died yet. So I don’t know, how Masala expired.	50% discount of marketed price
5	Different kind of watch boxes. Some1 was very crazy more on watch boxes than on the watches. But unfortuantely couldnt carry them to India.	Please take as much as you want.
6	Garbage bin. I give 100% Guarntee that any spoiled food that you put on this Garbage bin will not give a bad smell, because the Garbage bin by itself gives out a smell that will beat everything else.	5
7	Sofa. Has no paperwork on this. No idea which year, it was bought. If you find any peanuts, kodbulae or any other kind of Indian snacks, I promise you that, I will not charge you for that.	245.67

9	Vaccum cleaner. It works. Gives the same noise as other VCs. Moves the same way as others. Very good condition,Except that I think the filter is gone and hence it doesn't clean.	12
10	Hangers. Again good condition. But I suggest you use some deodrant on the hangers,before the use, else you may have to wash your clothes again.	.1/hanger
11	Light stand. The control in the light is gone, in one of our epic battles in the house. So you have to plug out & plug in the light whenever you want to switch off/on. If bulb ever gets fused out, I suggest you throw the lamp, instead of trying to change the bulb and getting Asthma.	2
12	Wooden chair. Only issue is last winter took the bottom of the chair and this winter took the back of the chair. But you can rest your head and hands on it peacefuly. Other parts of the body has to be in air. I suggest this for people who execise or do yoga.	10
13	Printer. Inkjet printer. Works fine. Just takes some time and gives a lot of noise. Other day, I have to print a pizza coupon and I connected this printer for printing. But couldn’t print, so I took pencil and scale and drew all barcodes, as printer took more time. Unfortunately, pizza hut didnt accept my drawing saying their scanner is not scanning it. they have raised a ticket with their IT and i am waiting for the resolution.	2
14	TV stand. It is surprising that it still stands. Again not for Astma people, others can venture @ their own risk	6
15	Cooking utensils. As most of us who stayed in the house were black(as per indian standards), we painted our cooking stuff also black, by leaving it in stove for an hour or so. You can't find whether it is made of aluminium or steel. The only color visible is black.	10/utensil

என்னடா இவன் தான் சென்னைல இல்லையே..ஆனா இதபத்தி பதிவு போடறான்னு நீங்க முனுமுனுக்குறது நல்லாவே கேக்குது. ஆனா பாருங்க, நமக்கு எப்பவுமே இந்த மாதிரி விஷயங்கள்ல ஈடுபாடு ஜாஸ்தி. அதான் நம்ம கருத்த பதிஞ்சுருவோம்னு..டோண்டு பதிவுல என்ன விவாதிக்கபட்டதுன்னு தெளிவா சொல்லி இருக்கார். சிவராமன் பதிவையும் படிங்க.

சென்னை இணைய எழுத்தாளர்கள் சங்கம், இல்ல குழுமம், இல்ல சமுதாயம், அட பேரு வைக்கிறதே கஷ்டமா இருக்கும் போல. லக்கி  சொன்ன மாதிரி, என்னை எல்லாம் எழுத்தாளர்னு யாராவது கூப்பிட்டா, அப்புறம் தமிழ்ல இன்னொரு புது வார்த்தை கண்டுபிடிக்கணும், உண்மையான எழுத்தாளர்களை அழைக்க. :-) நமக்கு தமிழ் அகராதில சேர்க்க பல அறிவியல் சொற்கள் இருப்பதால, இந்த வேலை நமக்கு வேண்டாமே.

பேர பத்தி நா பேசுறதே தப்பு. ஏன்னா, நான் இப்படி ஒரு சங்கம் வேணுமான்னு கேக்குற குழுவை சேர்ந்தவன். சரி ஒரு நிமிஷம் வேணும்னு வச்சுக்குவோம்...நன்மைகள்/தீமைகள் என்ன?

ஒரு குழுவிற்கு எப்பவுமே தனி மரியாதை உண்டு. தனி மனிதர்கள் சாதிக்க முடியாத பல விஷயங்கள் குழுக்களால் சாதிக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கு. ஆனால் அந்த குழுக்களுக்கு எல்லாம் ஒரு பொது நோக்கம், பொது பிரச்சனை இருந்தன. ஒரு கிராமத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் வேண்டும் என்பதில் ஆரம்பித்து, இலங்கை தமிழர்கள் சுதந்திரமாய் சுவாசிக்க வேண்டும் என்பது வரை. நம் குழுவில் அப்படி என்ன பிரச்சனை இருக்கு? (பல வகைகளில் வேறுபடும் நம் எல்லாரையும் ஒன்றாய் கட்டி போடும் அளவு?)

   அ. டோண்டு/சுகுணா திவாகர் சந்தித்த மாதிரி போலிகள் தொல்லை.
   இது பெரிய பிரச்சனை தான். ஆனால் இதில் உதவ சைபர் கிரைம் காவலர்கள் தான் ரெம்ப முக்கியம் என்பது என் எண்ணம். ஒரு தனி மனிதனின் கோரிக்கைக்கும் ஒரு சங்கத்தின் கோரிக்கைக்கும் வித்தியாசம் இருக்குமா என்று தெரியவில்லை.
   ஆ. பயிற்சிகள்/போட்டிகள்/தொழில்நுட்ப உதவிகள்:
   ஒரு சங்கம் இவற்றை எடுத்து நடத்தும் போது, வரவேற்ப்பு பெரிதாக இருக்கும். ஆனால் இதில் கருத்து வேறுபாடுகளும், அதனால் நமக்குள் பிரச்சனைகளும் வர ஆரம்பிக்கும். ஒரு கவிதை போட்டியில் என் ஆதர்ஷ எழுத்தாளர் நடுவர் ஆக வேண்டும் என்பதில் ஆரம்பித்து, "கவிதை போட்டியின் பரிசு சிறுகதை போட்டியின் பரிசை விட அதிகம்", "பரிசு கவிதைகள் எல்லாம் பின்நவினத்துவ கவிதைகள்" என்பது வரை பல குற்றசாட்டுகள் வரும். தனியாய் இவற்றை நடத்தும் போது, அது அவர்கள் பணம், அவர்கள் எது செய்தாலும் கேட்க நமக்கு உரிமை இல்லை. ஆனால் சங்கம் பொது. நேற்று அமைப்பில் சேர்ந்து, இன்னும் நம் நோக்கங்களை புரிந்து கொள்ளாத ஒருவர், உறுப்பினர் என்ற உரிமையில் சங்கத்தின் அனைத்து செயல்பாடுகளையும் கேள்வி கேட்க முடியும்.
   இ. சங்க நிர்வாகம்:
   பணமும், பதவியும் தான் மனிதர்களை பொறாமை கொள்ள செய்யும் செயலில் முன்னிலை பெறுபவை. பதிவர்களும் மனிதர்கள் தானே? சங்க தேர்தல்கள், செலவினங்கள் பல கேள்விகளை எழுப்பும். சங்க நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு ஓடியாடி வேலை செய்பவர்கள், தங்களுக்கு பிடித்த வகையில் அந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளை வடிவமைத்தால் கூட பலர் அதனை கேலி/கேள்வி செய்வார்கள். "ஒரு சல்லி காசு வாங்காம, நான் ஏன் இத்தனை வேலை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று உண்மையாய் உழைப்பவர்கள் என்னும் பொழுது, பதவி ஆசை பிடித்த குழு நிர்வாக பொறுபேற்கும். அப்புறம் விழுப்புரம் தான்... :-)
   ஈ. பதிவுலகம் இன்னும் சில வருடங்களில் லட்சம் பேர் வாழும் வலை இடம் ஆக போகிறது. இத்தனை பேரை நாம் எப்படி ஒரு குடையின் கீழ் கொண்டு வர போகிறோம். ஒரு சின்ன ஹாலில் நடந்த கூட்டத்தில் நமக்குள் பல கருத்து வேறுபாடுகள். இந்த முயற்சி தமிழர்கள் எல்லாரையும் ஒரு குடையின் கீழ் கொண்டு வருவது போல. திமுகவும் அதிமுகவும் மதிமுகவும் ஒரு தலைவரை ஏற்று கொள்வது போல.
உ. பலர் தாங்கள்  சென்னையில் இல்லை, ஆனால் அவர்கள் பணத்தில் பயிலரங்கு நடக்கிறது மாதிரியான பல வினாக்கள் வரும்.

நான் எதோ இது நடக்கவே முடியாத விஷயம் என்று சொல்வதாக எண்ண வேண்டாம். "நானும் ரவுடி" என்று சொல்லிக்கொள்வதில் எனக்கும் பெருமை தான். என் கருத்துகள் இதோ:

   மின்னச்சல் குழுமமாக நாம் இருக்கலாம். எல்லாரிடமும் பணம் கேட்காமல், தருபவர் தரட்டும் என்ற கொள்கையுடன், வரும் பணத்தில் நம்மின் மிக அத்தியாவசிய தேவையான, அனானிகளை களைவது மாதிரியான செயல்களை மட்டும் செய்வோம். (ஓர் அளவுக்கு மேல் பணம் வந்தால், அதை மறுக்கவும் நாம் தயாராக இருக்க வேண்டும்). போட்டிகளோ, பயிற்சிகளோ இதன் மூலம் வேண்டாம். உதவிகள் சங்கம் மூலம் வேண்டாம். சங்க மின்னச்சல் மூலம் உதவி கோரலாம். ஆனால் உதவில் தனிப்பட்ட முறையிலயே செய்யப்பட வேண்டும். நம்முடைய நோக்கங்களை மிகவும் குறைவாக வைத்து கொள்வதினால், நிறைய பேரை குழுமத்தில் இணைக்க முடியும். பதிவர் அல்லாத வாசகர்களை கூட இதில் இணைய வாய்ப்புண்டு நிர்வாகிகள் என்று ஒரு குழு தேவை இல்லை. பதவி இல்லை. பணம் இல்லை. போட்டியோ பொறமையோ இருக்காது. நாம் எல்லாரும் ஒரு குழுவில் பதிவு செய்து இருப்போம், ஆனால் அந்த குழு நமக்கு மிகவும் அத்தியாவசிய உதவிகளை மட்டுமே செய்யும். பிடிக்காதவர்கள் கூட "ஊரோடு ஒத்து வாழ" குழுவில் சேருவார்கள்.

எல்லாமே என் கருத்துக்கள். நான் பதிவு எழுதவதே அபூர்வம். எனவே எனக்கு இதை பற்றி பேச எவ்வுளவு தகுதி இருக்குனு தெரியாது. புடிச்சா எடுத்துக்கோங்க, இல்லாட்டி யாருக்கும் நஷ்டம் இல்ல.

அம்மாவும் விடைபெறுதலும்!!

மு.கு: கடந்த வாரத்தில் ஒரு நாள், ஊரில் இருந்து வந்த ஒரு தோழியிடம் அம்மாவிடம் இருந்து எனக்கு இட்லி பொடி வாங்கி வர சொல்லியிருதேன். அவள் செல்லும் முன் அம்மாவுக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் தர எண்ணி இருதேன். அப்புறம் வேலை மும்முரத்தில் எழுத ஆரம்பித்து முடிக்க மறந்தேன். இதெல்லாம் அம்மாவுக்கு தெரியாது. அனுப்பிய இட்லி பொடிக்குள் ஒரு மளிகை கடை சிட்டை. பின் புறம் அம்மா கையெழுத்தில் ரெண்டு வரிகள்.

"செந்திமா, எனக்கு ஒரு லெட்டர் எழுதேன். என்ன வேணா எழுது. ஆனா கண்டிப்பாய் எழுது". அம்மாவின் எழுத்தை பார்த்து சிறிது உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டு வரைவில் நெடு நாளாக இருந்த இந்த இடுகையை முடித்தேன். அடுத்த வாரம் இது அம்மாவுக்கு என் கையெழுத்தில் போய் சேரும். :)

பனிரெண்டாம் வகுப்பு முடித்து முதல் முறை வீட்டை விட்டு /ஊரை விட்டு வேறு ஊருக்கு சென்று படிக்க பொட்டி படுகையுடன் கிளம்பினேன். (பேச்சுக்கு சொல்லல...உண்மையாவே பெரிய பொட்டி படுக்கையுடன் தான்). தேடி தேடி எனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும் என்று யோசித்து என் தங்கை பொட்டி கட்டினாள். இத்தனைக்கும் நான் முதலில் தங்கியது என் சித்தி வீட்டில் தான். அரை மனசுடன் அம்மா அப்பா கூட மதுரைக்கு பஸ் ஏறினேன். (தனியா போனா கல்லூரி கட்டணம் யார் கட்டுறது?). ஒரு பக்கம் என்னமோ நாம பெரிய ஆளு ஆயிட்டதா நினைப்பு. இன்னொரு பக்கம், பள்ளி முடித்து திரும்ப வந்த உடன் பலகாரம் எடுத்து வைக்க அம்மா இருக்க மாட்டங்களே? ஊரு கோபம் எல்லாம் காட்டுவதற்காக சும்மா தங்கையுடன் சண்ட போட முடியாதே. என்ன தான் திட்டினாலும் ,அதிகாலை எழுப்பி விட்டு, ஹார்லிக்ஸ் குடுத்து, கிரிக்கெட் பாக்க சொல்லும் அப்பா? ஹ்ம்ம்..

பேருந்தில் அம்மா மடி படுத்து தூங்கினேன். "ஞாபகம் இருக்கா? காலேஜ் போற" என்ற அப்பாவை ஒரு முறை முறைத்து விட்டு அம்மா மடியில் நிம்மதியாய் தூங்கினேன். மனதுக்குள் ஆயிரத்தி எட்டு கேள்விகளுடன் சென்ற மறக்கவே முடியாத ரெண்டு மணி நேர பயணம் அது.

அதன்பின் வார விடுமுறைக்கு நான் காரைக்குடி வரும் போது எல்லாம், திரும்பி போகும் போது அம்மா தான் என் கூட பேருந்து நிலையம் வரை வருவார்கள்.இது ஒரு உணர்வு பூர்வமான நம்பிக்கை. ஒரு தடவை நான் அப்பாவோட போக, அந்த முறை பேருந்தில் அம்பது ருபாய் நோட்டு ஒன்றை நான் தொலைத்துவிட, "இதுக்கு தான் நான் போறேன்னு சொன்னேன்"னு அம்மா, அப்பா கூட பெரிய சண்டை போட்டதாக தங்கை அடுத்த வாரம் சொன்னாள்.

எங்கள் வீட்டில் இருந்து ரெண்டு கி.மீ நடக்க வேண்டும் பேருந்து ஏற. போற வழி ஒன்னும் பச்சை பசேல் விவசாய நிலம் இல்லை. தரிசு நிலம். எல்லாம் பிளாட் போட்டு பத்து வருசமா விக்காம கிடக்குற நிலம். ஒத்தை அடி பாதைல அம்மா கூட கதை அடிச்சுகிட்டே நடந்தா ரெண்டு கி.மீ நடந்ததே தெரியாது. என்ன தான் சனியும் ஞாயிறும் ஊர் கதை எல்லாம் பேசினாலும், அந்த கடைசி நாப்பது நிமிட நடைல பேசின விஷயங்கள் பல நாட்களுக்கு மறக்காது. சில நேரங்கள்ல அது அப்பாவையோ தங்கையையோ பற்றிய குறையாய் இருக்கும். சில நேரங்கள அது பக்கத்துக்கு வீட்டு சண்டை பத்தி இருக்கும். அம்மா டி.வில பார்த்த சினிமா பத்தியோ, கோவில் திருவிழா பற்றியோ இருக்கும். என்ன பேசினோம் என்பதை விட, அந்த தருணங்களை அம்மாவுடன் கழிப்பதே முக்கியமாய் இருந்தது. 'பேசினோம்' என்று நான் இடுகை முழுக்க சொன்னாலும், அம்மா பேச, நான் வெறும் "ம்" கொட்டிகிட்டே நடப்பேன்.

"அப்பா திட்டினது எல்லாம் மனசுல வச்சுக்காத", "நல்லா சாப்புடு என்ன", "நல்லா படிக்கணும் தம்பி" , "அப்பாவ விட எனக்கு நீ தான் உசிரு", "அவன் சொன்னான் இவன் சொன்னான் அப்படினு தப்பான பழக்கம் எல்லாம் பழக கூடாது" சொன்னதையே திரும்ப திரும்ப சொன்னாலும், அவை எதுவுமே வெறுப்பை தந்தது இல்லை. எதோ நான் விமானம் ஏற போற மாதிரி, பேருந்து நிறுத்தம் அருகில் உள்ள பிள்ளையார் கோவிலில் எனக்காக ஒரு பெரிய பிரார்த்தனை. . "அடுத்த வாரம் வருவீல?","பஸ்ல நிக்காம உக்கார்ந்து போ",ரூபா பத்திரம். இது போதும்ல? ". "இங்க பஸ் ஏறுனா சீட்டு கெடைக்காது. நீ பெரிய பஸ் ஸ்டான்ட் போய் பஸ் ஏறு. நாலு ரூபா போனா போகுது'..இது ரெண்டு ரூபா குடுக்காம சந்தைக்கு நடக்குற அம்மாவிடம் இருந்து.

அதுக்கு அப்புறம் நான் வேலை கிடைத்து மங்களூர் போகும் போதும், அம்மா தான் எப்பவுமே பேருந்து நிலையம் வரை கூட வருவாங்க. ஒரு சில தடவ கூட்டமே இல்லாம பேருந்து வந்தாலும் நான் "அடுத்த பஸ்ல போறேன்" அப்படின்னு சொல்லி இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் நேரம் பேசுவோம். இப்பொழுது அம்மாவின் அறிவுரைகள் மாறி இருந்தன. "கெட்ட பழக்கங்களை" பற்றி தான் பெரும்பாலவை இருக்கும். இடை இடையே "பத்திரம் தம்பி","கடல் பக்கம் போகாத", "ஆபிஸ்ல சண்ட போடாத" "இவ்ளோ சம்பளம் குடுக்குறாங்களே, அதுக்கு ஏத்த வேல வாங்கு வாங்கலோ?" "சிக்கிரம் தூங்கிரு. என்ன?", "போன் பண்ண மறந்துறாத"...இன்றும் எதுவுமே மறக்கவில்லை.

அமெரிக்க விமானம் ஏறிய நாள், அம்மா கண்களில் சொல்ல வந்த ஆனா சொல்ல முடியாத பல கவிதைகள்/கனவுகள்/வருத்தமான சந்தோசங்கள்/சந்தோஷமான வருத்தங்கள். அது ஒரு தனி கதை, இன்னொரு நாள் எழுதுறதா இருக்கேன்.

அம்மா சொன்னது மட்டும் ஆயிரம் கதைகள் இல்லை, அம்மா என்ற சொல்லுக்குள்ளும் ஆயிரம் கதைகள் இருகின்றன!!

இந்த வார இறுதியில் பெரிதாய் வேற ஒன்னும் வேலை இல்லை என்பதாலும், நான் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று டவுன்லோட் செய்த படங்களின் எண்ணிக்கை கூடிக கொண்டே போவதாலும் (நான் இருக்க எடத்துல இந்திய படங்கள் திரையிட படுவதில்லை. இன்னும் ஒரு காரணம் கூடிய சிக்கிரம் இந்தியா வர வேண்டும் என்று முயன்று கொண்டு இருப்பதற்கு.:) )

சரி பார்த்த படங்கள் பற்றிய என் கருத்து. விமர்சனம் இல்லை மக்கா. வெறும் கருத்து.

முதல பார்த்த படம் அசல். எந்த வித எதிர்பார்ப்பும் இன்றி தான் பார்க்க ஆரம்பிதேன். நான் மசாலா படம் பார்த்து ரெம்ப நாள் ஆகியிருந்ததாலும், அஜித்தின் சமீபத்திய பேச்சுக்கள் எனக்கு பிடித்து இருந்ததாலும்,அசல் பார்க்க முடிவெடுத்தேன். சரி நேர படத்துக்கு போவோம். என்ன தான் எதிர்பார்ப்பே இல்லை என்றாலும், அஜித்-சரண் கூட்டணி இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் நல்ல படத்த தந்து இருக்கலாமுன்னு நினைக்குறேன். படம் தமிழ் நாட்டை தவிர உலகில் எல்லா இடங்களிலும் நடக்கிறது. ஏனோ தனியாய் கேட்ட பொழுது பிடித்த பாடல்கள், படத்தில் பிடிக்கவில்லை. மசாலா படத்தில் பாடல் படத்தோடு ஓட்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்க கூடாது தான், ஆனால் பாடல்களில், ஒரு ஈர்ப்பு இருக்க வேண்டாமா? தல, நீங்க இளைய தளபதிய பார்த்து கத்துக்க வேண்டியது நிறைய இருக்கு. படம் பில்லா-வை அடிக்கடி ஞாபகம் படுத்தியது, கடியாய் இருந்தது. அஜித்தை தவிர படத்தில் யாருக்கும் நடிக்க வாய்ப்பு கிடையாது. அடுத்த தடவ இன்னொரு மசாலா படம்னு விமர்சனம் படித்தால், நான் அஜித் படம் பார்க்க மாட்டேன்னு நினைகிறேன். அட வெறும் மசாலா தான, அப்போ புது நடிகர்கள் படம் பார்போம்மே, புதுசா ஏதாவது இருக்கும். எதுக்கு அஜித்?

வீட்டுல பார்த்தது ஒரு வகையில் நல்லது. பல இடங்களில் படத்த fast forward செய்ய முடிந்தது. அசலில் அசலா எதுவும் இல்லை .

ரெண்டாவது படம், தமிழ்ப்படம்,கலக்கிட்டாங்க மக்கா. விழுந்து விழுந்து சிரிச்சேன். இத்தனைக்கும் எனக்கு "லொள்ளு சபா" ரெம்ப பிடிக்காது.
சிவா சரியான தேர்வு. கதை, திரைக்கதை எல்லாமே சூப்பர். எத்தன நாள் ஆச்சு இப்படி சிரிச்சு? விசு படம் பார்த்தப்போ சிரிச்சது, வடிவேலு-வின் புலிகேசிக்கு சிரிச்சது. கண்டிப்பா நான் இந்தியா வரப்போ என் அப்பா அம்மாவோட இந்த படம் பார்ப்பேன். இப்படி படம் எடுங்களேன் இயக்குனர்களே, வீட்டுல எல்லாரும் ரசிச்சு, படத்த பத்தி ஒரு ரெண்டு மூனு நாள் பேசி, படம் எங்கள் வாழ்வின் ஒரு அங்கமாக வேண்டும். 2010 பத்தி, அஞ்சு வருஷம் கழிச்சு பேசுனா, இந்த படம் அதில் ஒரு பகுதியா இருக்கும். படத்தின் வசனம் எழுதிய நண்பர் வலைப்பக்கம் இதோ.

வீட்டுல பார்த்தது ஒரு வகையில் நல்லது. பல இடங்களில் படத்த rewind/repeat செய்ய முடிந்தது என் படுக்கையில் உருண்டு புரண்டு வாய் விட்டு சிரித்து, அழுகை வர சிரித்து, என் கன்னட roommates என்னை ஒரு மாதிரியாய் பார்க்கும் அளவுக்கு படத்தை ரசிக்க முடிந்தது.

தமிழ் படம். திகட்டாத நகைச்சுவை.

அடுத்து பார்த்த படம், ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன். விமர்சனகளில் பின்னுட்டம் இட்ட பொழுது, நான் இது மாதிரி புது முயற்சிகளை ஆதரிக்கனும்னு சொன்னேன். தப்பு பண்ணிட்ட மாதிரி ஒரு எண்ணம் இப்போ. படம் எனக்கு புரிஞ்சுது. (அல்லது நான் அப்படி தான் நினைக்கிறேன்௦). அவதாரோட இதை ஒப்பிட முடியாது, ஒப்பிட கூடாது. ஆனால் இது தான் நம்மை உலக சினிமாவுக்கு எடுத்து செல்லும் முயற்சியா? இன்னும் பத்து வருடம் கழித்து இப்படிப்பட்ட சினிமாவை தான் நாம் பார்க்க விரும்புகிறோமா? அன்பே சிவம்,சேது, ரோஜா, மொழி, பாம்பே, இந்தியன் இந்த படங்கள் எல்லாமே என்னை பொறுத்தவரை பல உலக படங்களுடன் அவற்றை ஒப்பிட வைத்தன. அய்யா செல்வா ராகவன், உலக சினிமாவுக்கு கொண்டு செல்றதுன்னா, உடனே படம் முழுக்க கெட்ட வார்த்தையும், 'Skin Show'um இல்லை. உலகம் நம்மட்ட என்ன இருக்குனு பார்க்க விரும்புதே தவிர, அவங்கள மாதிரி படம் எடுக்க சொல்லல. நல்ல கதை இது. இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் மெனக்கட்டு திரைகதை எழுதி, தேவை இல்லாத செக்ஸ்ச விட்டுட்டு (சில இடங்களில் தேவைனா சரி, பார்த்திபனை மயக்க செக்ஸ் தேவை தான், ஆனா கார்த்தி கூட தேவையே இல்லாத உரையாடல்களை தவிர்க்கலாம்). உங்க வட்டத்த விட்டு வெளிய வாங்க செல்வா. செக்ஸ் இல்லாம ஒரு படம் எடுங்களேன் ப்ளீஸ்.

வீட்டுல பார்த்தது ஒரு வகையில் நல்லது. பல இடங்களில் படத்த freeze செய்து secreenshot எடுக்க செய்ய முடிந்தது ஹி ஹி. :)

கடைசியா பார்த்தது "My Name is Khan".ஹிந்தி படம். ஷாருக்கும், இயக்குனர் கரணும், ரெம்ப தெளிவா யார் மனதையும் புண்படுத்தாமல் அழகாய் சொல்ல வந்த விசயத்த சொல்லிருக்காங்க.

9/11 2001-kku பிறகு அமெரிக்காவில் வாழும் ஒரு முஸ்லிமின் கதை. ஓரே ஒரு வசனத்தை சுற்றி படம் ஓடுகிறது. "My name is khan and I am not a terrorist". ரெம்ப சிக்கலான கதை. ஒரு நுனி தவறினாலும், ஏதாவது ஒரு சமுகம் ஆத்திரம் அடைந்து விடும். "பாம்பே"யின் சாயல் பல இடங்களில். படத்தில் எல்லாருமே அழகாய் நடித்து இருக்கிறார்கள். ஷாருக் நடிப்பு தனியாய் பாராட்டப்பட வேண்டியது. படத்தோட அஸ்திவாரமே கதை தான்.அதனால அத பத்தி நான் பேச மாட்டேன். பின்னணி இசை பிரமாதம். கேமரா உண்மையான அமெரிக்காவை கவர் செய்து இருக்கு. ஒபமாவாய் நடித்தவர் அவரை நல்லாவே இமிட்டே செய்றார். போர் அடிக்காத திரைக்கதை, நம்ம தமிழ் ஆளுங்க நிறைய பேர் இந்த படத்துல இருந்து நிறைய கத்துக்கலாம். பதிவர்களே, நம்ம பர்தா பற்றிய விவாதம் எல்லாம் படத்துல வருது. இந்த படம் கண்டிப்பாய் எல்லாரும் பார்க்க வேண்டிய ஒன்று.

இந்த வருட ஆஸ்கார் பேச்சுக்கள் எல்லாம் "அவதார்" பற்றி பேசி கொண்டிருக்க, சத்தம் இல்லாமல் ஒரு ஹிந்தி படம் ஆஸ்கார் கடைசி சுற்றியில் விளையாடி கொண்டிருக்கிறது. படம் பெயர் "கவி" . புது செய்தியா இருக்கா? எனக்கும் இன்னைக்கு தான் தெரியும்.. இந்த படம் இந்தியாவில் நடக்கும் அடிமைத்தனம் பற்றிய படம்.. பெருமைப்பட வேண்டிய விஷயம் இல்ல தான். ஆனால் நம்முடைய பிரச்சனைகளை பற்றி பேச மறுப்பதும் ஞாயம் இல்லை தானே.

Top 10 Technological revolutions of last decade

Many in this world, started this decade with a technological fear of Y2K. Many of us including me were amazed by technology. it is not surprising to see that we are today more addicted to technology than how we were 10 years back. Here i am gonna try to list the top 10 technological advances of this decade, that affected the mass population. (So don't expect devices like kindle on the list. They are for next decade).

10. LCD/LED High Definition TVs.
Even though this hasn't got into middle class homes of India, here in US, many people have moved to the latest technology of LCD/LED HDTVs. Unlike 1980s and 1990s where we had small improvements in technology, this sector has gone through a big technological revolution both in mass production and in high-end in last 10 years. (Eventually highend today is gonna reach the mass in another 5 years as we have seen in the past). TV Channels also require a special mention here, as we saw hundreds of new TV channels getting started in India in last 10 years.

9. Orkut,Facebook,Twitter and etc...
Again still within a small group of people, but these social networking sites are making a change of how we view our social life. Our society is changing, Now my society doesn't stop only with the people who are my close relatives or who live in my town, my society also includes my orkut friends,my twitter followers.
Is it gonna be good or not? I don't know. Till now it has helped me to be in touch with my schoolmates/collegemates, old friends whom I might have lost contact if there was no orkut. Irrespective of good or bad, this segment of social networking will always be part of our online life.

8.Digital Cameras
Though the revolution in this technology started before 2000,it has hit the masses big time in this decade.It made photography easy. With the push from social networking asking us to share the moments of life, I can can only see this segment becoming more and more cheap and high-end. Today we are in 12 Megapixel Cameras which is clearly the best you will need, if you are printing the photos. But i see scope for improvement in this section in terms of more waterproof, shockproof cameras which can handle some rough handling.

7. Gaming tools
Gaming industry is fast changing from old video games to today PS3 and Xbox 360. They have become more intensive and they have even got middle aged people to play. One important device that is worth mentioning in this segment is, Wii. I was never a gamer. Even in my school/college days when i had friends who were hard-core gamers, I was never into gaming. Believe me, I bought Wii just a month back and I am now addicted to it. Big difference is, it doesn't make you a couch potato. It helps you to move and keeps you fit. Oh yeah, believe me gaming is not that bad today. :) Wii's important customer group is old age people. That is something that we never thought of 10 years back.

6. Youtube
Though in India, this is still looked upon as an Pirated video streaming website, worldwide it is really becoming the next technology to deliver the content legally. it is a really a "You"tube in America, where you can see people their own videos, mostly for friends and sometimes for the public to enjoy. Soon you will hear stories of next generation director identified by a producer based on a youtube hit video. A band getting popular without travelling to cities. One interesting piece of information : The new Hindi movie "3 Idiots" will be released in youtube after 3 months. India is also moving towards the online legal movie streaming.

5. Laptops & Netbooks:
Processing power and hardware technology in Laptops and Desktops have gone wild in last 10 years. A 6 GB hard disk/64 MB RAM was an expensive item at the start of 2000. Today Laptops on average has at least 250 GB HD and 4 GB RAM. (Basically my HD size in 2000, is today's RAM. Will i see a 250 GB RAM at the end of 2020? Quite possible).Unfortunate that INTEL dropped the scheme of "Laptop per child', but I pray that soon we get into that situation with every one in developing world has some kind of access to Computers. Netbooks/Tablets are just picking up. They are not really the success of this decade, but worth mentioning for their First generations. (I call them proof of concepts).

4. Blogs and Free information tools like Wikipedia
For lot of people, blogging is an easy way to express themselves. A lot of "Tea shop discussions" among people now happen in blogs. Like youtube, this is another user generated content platform and even in a place like Tamil Nadu where internet penetration is just 8%, mainstream media is giving respect to bloggers. Collaboration between unknown people to preserve the knowledge that we have as human is kind of unknown at the start of this decade. But today Wikipedia is best example to show that we as a group can be more productive than anyone would imagine. One more example, is listed below. It has a huge collection of tamil classical books. (Some were written 2000 years back).

3. Broadband services
Youtube, orkut, twitter, all have to say their thanks to the broadband technology that is established in western world and is quickly getting popular in developing world. Many people are getting connected around the world. compare the webcams that we had in 2000 and the latest ones, thanks to broadband, we can send very clear images and virtually create a conference where other person can talk to you and see your body language as if they are talking to you in person. For people like me,who live abroad, this is a big advantage to talk to near and dear ones.

2. Ipods
There were mp3 players when we entered year 2000, but nothing was popular like ipods. Something that made music reaching the mass every easy. Many of us might have used some mp3 player other than ipods in last 10 years , but I think market for them also is created by the craze of ipod. This will go as one of the remarkably historic invention of this decade. Ipod touch is creating a revolution by packing more things into your mp3 player than what we thought it will do. Starting in 2001 with bulky(those days they weren't bulky, but today they look bulky) ipods, today you have ipods as slim as match sticks. Hats off to Steve Jobs.

1. Mobile Phones and 3G Technology

Mobile phones are the real revolution of this decade across the world. Start of year 2000, the market was not saturated in western world and was not even mature in developing world. But today, market is completely saturated in markets like USA and it is still a big growth engine in developing world. it is not just the elite who got benefited as in many of the other technologies listed in this blog entry, it is everyone. When i say everyone, it is everyone including middle class housewives like my mom, business persons who are on always on run to find the products at cheaper price, college students whom their parents wants to know where they are, farmers who get their weather updates in SMS. List goes on.

Smart phones have got into the market and they will be the future soon. 3G is getting popular in western countries and will very soon catch the developing world as well.

On top of all this, there is one technology, which can't be compared with any of this, which is ruling the world. Which changed the way we look at internet. Which said don't be afraid of this sea of information, I will be your guide. It is quite possible, if not for this tool, that I may have hated internet for its closed, unopen doors and might have moved away from it. It is none other than GOOGLE. Today google knows my taste more than my mom. There are arguments of whether it is good or bad. Nevertheless, we are already in the hands of google and till today I like it. When it knows that I bought a Wii, it gives me the list of Wii accessories that I might like as an advertisement. I buy them and they get paid for suggesting them to me.

Many might not agree to this and tell me that I have lost my mind or I am exaggerating, but I am proud to say that "Google is my very best friend which can understand all my needs, all my moods. Google helps me to find new friends, keep in touch with my old friends and tells me the best advice when I need one". Google will become integral part of this world for next few decades and sure to be a great companion to me, for rest of my online life.

Hats off to everyone in Google.

P.S: One thing I noticed is that all these technological advances took some time to come to India. Hope at least in next decade we get the fruit of the inventions at the same time as western world.

அவதார் பார்த்து அதிர்த்து போனதுக்கு அப்புறம் "3 Idiots" பார்க்க நண்பர்களுடன் திரை அரங்கம் சென்றேன். அமீர் கானின் "Tare Zameen Par" அப்புறம் அவர் மேல ஒரு தனி மதிப்பு உண்டு. (கமல்-ட்ட இருக்க மாதிரி ). நீங்க "Tare Zameen Par" பார்க்கலைன்னா கண்டிப்பா பாருங்க. எனக்கு பெருசா ஹிந்தி தெரியாது. ஏதோ அப்பா அடிப்பாரேன்னு பயத்துல சின்ன வயசுல படிச்சது...அவ்ளோ தான்... நண்பர்களின் மொழிமாற்ற உதவியுடன் தான் படம் பார்த்தேன்.

ஒரு கல்லூரி கதை. சின்னதாய் உங்களுக்குள் நம்பிக்கை துளிர் விட வைக்கும் படம். படத்தின் கதையை சொல்வதாய் இல்லை. :) நீங்களே பார்த்து தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.

அமிரின் நடிப்பு எப்பொழுதும் போல் சூப்பர். மிச்சவங்க அவங்க அவங்க வேலைய ஒழுங்கா பார்த்திருக்காங்க. நம்முரு மாதவனும் அசத்தி இருக்கார். பாடல்கள் தாளம் போட வைத்தன. பின்னணி இசை படத்தை பாதிக்காமல் சென்றது. படத்தின் முக்கியமான விஷயம் நகைச்சுவை. (இதற்காகவே கண்டிப்பாக ஹிந்தி தெரிந்தவர் வேண்டும்,...அங்க தான இடிக்குது அப்படின்னு சொல்லறது கேக்குது..). தமிழில் இந்த படம் வெளியிட பட்டதா?

எனக்கு சினிமா மொழி தெரியாது. அதனால ஒலி,ஒளி பத்தி எல்லாம் கேக்காதிங்க. :)
ஒரு ரசிகனாக படம் புடிச்சுது. அமிரோட முந்தின படங்கள் அளவுக்கு இல்லைன்னு தான் சொல்லணும். ஒரு சில லாஜிக் சொதப்பல்கள், திரைகதையில் சில இடங்களில் தொய்வு. அமிரை நிறையவே முன்னிறுத்தி விட்டது போன்ற உணர்வு. (நம்ம ஊரு கதாநாயகர்கள் அளவுக்கு இல்லை என்றாலும்..)

"ஆல் இஸ் வெள்" என்பது தான் பஞ்ச் டயலாக். முன்னாபாய் இயக்குனரின் படம் இது. பல இடங்களில் அது தெளிவாய் தெரிகிறது. மாணவர்கள் அவர்களுக்கு பிடித்த துறையை தேர்வு செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பது படத்தின் கருத்து. நான் கூட ஆடிட்டர் ஆகனும்னு நெனச்சு கடைசில சாப்ட்வேர் துறைல குப்ப கொட்டிக்கிட்டு இருக்கேன். அதனால படம் ஒரு வகைல என் மனதை நேரடியா தொட்டது. சேரன் மாதிரியான இயக்குனர்கள் கொஞ்சம் இந்த மாதிரி படங்களை பார்த்தால் நல்லது. (சேரனை எனக்கு பிடிக்கும். அதனால தான் இந்த கமெண்ட். அவர் நம்மள ரெம்ப அழுக வைக்குற மாதிரி ஒரு எண்ணம். இந்த படம் சிரிக்க வைத்து கொண்டே கருத்து சொல்லுகிறது).

அவதார் பார்த்த பொழுது பிரமிப்பு மிஞ்சியது. "த்ரீ இடியட்ஸ்" பார்த்த பொழுது ஒரு புன்னகையுடன் நம் சமுகத்தின் மேல் வெறுப்பு வந்தது (அந்த சமுகத்தில் நானும் அடக்கம் என்பதை உணரும் போது வெறுப்பு இன்னும் அதிகம் ஆகியது).

பின் குறிப்பு: விமர்சனம் என்ற வார்த்தை வேண்டும் என்றே தவிர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. சம்பிபதில் விமர்சனம் செய்ய ஒரு தகுதி வேண்டும் என்று எங்கோ படித்ததின் விளைவு.

முதல எல்லாருக்கும் ஒன்னு சொல்லிகிறேன். நீங்க கீழ படிக்கிறது பத்தி உங்களுக்கு முன்னமே தெரியும்னா, "போடா போடா பொழச்சு போடா-னு" விட்டுருங்க. உங்களுக்கு இது புது செய்தினா, எனக்கு சந்தோசம். எப்படினாலும் ஒரு கருத்து சொல்லிட்டு போங்க.

சரி இடுகைக்கு வருவோம். முதல TED பற்றி ஒரு அறிமுகம்.

TED என்பது ஒரு லாப நோக்கு இல்லாத ஒரு நிறுவனம். TED எனபது டெக்னாலஜி (தொழிநுட்பம்), என்டர்டைன்மென்ட்(பொழுதுபோக்கு), டிசைன்(வடிவமை) என்பதின் சுருக்கம். உலகம் முழுதும் இந்த மூணு துறைகள்ல இருக்க அறிஞர்கள ஒரு இடத்துல கொண்டு வந்து அவங்களோட கருத்துக்கள பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள ஒரு மேடை ஏற்படுத்தி கொடுக்குறாங்க.

உண்மைய சொல்லனும்னா தீபாவளி எல்லாம் இப்போ பெரிய உற்சாகத்த தரது இல்ல... அந்த பதினஞ்சு வயசு செந்தில் ஓடி ஓடி பட்டாசு வெடிச்சது, ஊரு குப்பை எல்லாம் எடுத்து எங்க வீட்டு வாசல்ல போட்டது, அம்மாவோட வடைக்காக அடுப்படில காத்துகிட்டு இருந்தது, எல்லாம் இப்போ இல்ல...ரெண்டு மூணு வருசமா புது டிரஸ் கூட எடுக்கல...சரி சஷ்டிக்கு வருவோம்...நான் இருக்க ஊருல (நான் இருக்கிறது அமெரிக்கா-ல ஒரு சின்ன ஊரு) ஒரு அழகான கோவில சஷ்டி கொண்டாட போறங்கனு கேள்வி பட்டேன்...

உடனே flashback.. 15 வருஷம் முன்னாடி போறோம்...எங்க? தேவகோட்டைக்கு...அதாங்க நம்ம சொந்த ஊரு...(ஊரு முழுக்க நமக்கே சொந்தமுனு நெனபோ , இல்ல ஊரு முழுக்க நமக்கு சொந்தகாரங்க இருக்குற நெனபோ, "சொந்த ஊரு"க்கு பெயர் காரணம் எல்லாம் கேட்க கூடாது)..1970-ல எல்லாம் கிருபானந்த வாரியார் சஷ்டிக்கு தேவகோட்டைக்கு வருவாராம்...அம்மா பெருமையா சொல்வாங்க...என்னோட சின்ன வயசுல அங்க பள்ளி குழந்தைகள் எல்லாம் சஷ்டி வாரத்துல முருகன் கோவில மேடைல எதாவது சமுக பிரச்சனை பற்றி பேசலாம்..எனக்காக அம்மா பெரிய ஆளுங்கள புடிச்சு பேச வாய்ப்பு வாங்குவாங்க....அந்த மழலை குரலில் நாங்க பேசுவதை, வாதாடுவதை கேட்கவே முருகன் வருவார் என்று மக்கள் நம்பினார்களோ? :-) அம்மா எழுதி கொடுப்பதை அப்படியே பேசி வருவேன்...அப்புறம் பஜனை..அம்மா மனமுருகி பாடும் முருகன் பாட்டுக்காகவே அவர் பக்கத்தில் உக்காருவேன்...அம்மாவுக்கு சங்கீதம் தெரியாது.. ராகமும் தாளமும் தெரியாது..ஆனா முருகன தெரியும்..பாடும் பாட்டின் அர்த்தம் தெரியும்...ரெம்ப பெருமையா இருக்கும்...அங்க பெரிய போட்டியே இருக்கும்...யாரு அடுத்த பாட்டு பாடுறதுன்னு..ஒரு பாட்டு முடிஞ்ச அடுத்த நொடில யாராவது அடுத்த பாட்டு பாட ஆரம்பிச்சுருவாங்க... "சேர்ந்து பாடுடா" அம்மா சொன்ன போது எல்லாம் கேட்டது இல்ல... அவங்க எல்லாம் பாடுறத பிரமிச்சு போய் கேட்டுகிட்டே இருந்துருகேன்...அவங்க பாடல்களே என்னை முருகனிடம் அழைத்து சென்றதால் நான் பாடவில்லை என்று நினைக்கறேன்...மறக்க முடியாத நாட்கள்...

சரி, 2009-க்கு வாங்க..சஷ்டி முதல் நாள்...ஞாயிறு மாலை..கோவிலுக்கு போனேன்...ஒரே ஒரு தமிழ் குடும்பம் மட்டும் வந்திருதாங்க..கந்த சஷ்டி கவசம் பாட ஆரம்பிச்சோம்...ரெண்டாவது பாராவுல நான் அழுக ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டேன்...இங்க வந்து ரெண்டு வருஷம் ஆச்சு...ரொம்ப தடவ அம்மாவ மிஸ் பண்ணிருக்கேன்..ஆனா இன்னைக்கு வர அழுதது இல்ல..அம்மாவுக்கு நா அழுதா பிடிக்காது.. எப்போவுமே ஒரு அழைப்பில் அம்மா இருக்கிறார் என்ற எண்ணமே என்னை அடுத்த நொடிக்கு இழுத்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தது. ஆனால் சஷ்டி என்னை அழ வைத்து விட்டது.. இதுவரை முருகனை அம்மா மூலமாக தான் பார்த்து இருக்கிறேன்... இன்று அம்மா மைல்களுக்கு அப்பால்..நான் தனியாய்...சஷ்டி படிக்க முடியவில்லை... ஒரு விஷயம் சின்னதாக இருந்தாலும் சில நேரங்களில் நம்மை முழுதாக ஆட்கொண்டு விடுவது மிகவும் ஆச்சிரியம் தான்..வீடு திரும்பும் போது அடுத்த நாள் கோவிலுக்கு போவதில்லை என்று முடிவு எடுத்தேன்...ஆனால் அன்று இரவு அதிசியமாய் ஆழ்ந்து தூங்கினேன், அம்மா மடியில் தூங்கியது போல. அடுத்த நாள் முழுக்க காரணமே இல்லாமல் சந்தோசமாக இருந்தேன். என் கார் என்னை கேட்காமலே கோவிலுக்கு இழுத்து சென்றது..மிக மிக சந்தோசமாய் சஷ்டி பாடினேன்...அம்மா என் கூட பாடுற மாதிரி இருந்தது. என்னை நம்புங்கள்!!. அம்மா என்னோடு பாடினாங்க.பாடி முடித்து கண் திறந்த பொழுது முருகன் தெரியவில்லை...அம்மா தெரிந்தார்...பின் ஏழு நாட்களும் கோவில் சென்றேன். திருமணம் ஆகாத ஒரு விளையாட்டு வயது பிள்ளை, பொறுப்பாக எல்லா நாளும் கோவிலுக்கு வந்தது பலர் புருவத்தை உயர்த்தியது..அவர்களுக்கு தெரியாது, நான் என் அம்மாவை பார்க்க வந்தேன் என்று...நான் மட்டுமே திருமணம் ஆகாதவன் என்பதால் மீதம் இருந்த பிரசாதம் எனக்காக தினமும் பொட்டலம் கட்டப்பட்டது. ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் சஷ்டி பாடிய பொழுது என் சந்தோசம் பல மடங்கு ஆனது.அன்று அம்மா பாட கெஞ்சிய போது நான் பாடவில்லை...அன்று அம்மா மூலம் முருகன் தெரிந்தான்...இன்று முருகன் மூலம் அம்மா தெரிந்தார். கோவிலில் பல தமிழ் நண்பர்கள் கிடைத்தார்கள். சூர சம்காரமும், முருகன் திரு கல்யாணமும் என்னை பழைய நினைவுகளுக்கு இழுத்து சென்றது.

இன்று வரை அம்மாவிடம் நான் சஷ்டிக்கு போனது பற்றி சொல்லவில்லை..சொன்னால் ரெம்ப சந்தோஷ படுவாங்க..ஆனால் நான் சொல்லும்போது அழுது விடுவேன்...அப்பறம் அம்மா சங்கடப்படுவங்க. வேண்டாம் சில அழுகைகள் நம்முடன் மட்டுமே இருப்பது நல்லது...ஆனா ஒன்னு நிச்சியம்...அடுத்த தடவ அம்மா முருகன் பாட்டு பாடுறப்போ நான் அவங்க கூட பாடிகிட்டு இருப்பேன்..

டிஸ்கி: முதல் நாள் சஷ்டி வந்த தமிழ் குடும்பத்தில் ஒரு சிறுவன் ரெம்ப துருதுரு-னு இருந்தான்...அழகாக மயில் வரைந்தான். கடைசி நாளில் அவன் செய்து கொண்டு வந்த சூரனை பார்த்த பொழுது பொறாமையை இருந்தது, அவன் கலை ஆர்வத்தை பார்த்து. அதே போல் திருகல்யாணத்தன்று பரதம் ஆடிய சிறுமிகளை பார்த்த பொழுதும் மிகவும் வெட்கப்பட்டேன். சிறு வயதில் அம்மா கற்று குடுக்க நினைத்த எதையும் கற்காமல் விளையாட்டு பிள்ளையாகவே இருந்து விட்டோமே என்று..கிழே இருப்பது எங்க ஊர் சூரன்... :-)

With the new problems in Iran, TV media is completely behind twitters and facebooks. When everyone is praising it as new "Twitter revolution", as someone pointed out Iran is not into revolution yet and definitely not because of twitter. Come on people, do you think million people in Iran came after reading their tweets? American media easily hide the facts when they don't want to show. Did anyone tell us about their percentage of Internet penetration in Iran? Who knows, except for this twitter-friendly college students everyone else in Iran in support of the Ahmadinejad. I am not saying the media is hiding facts, i am just saying that media is choosing what we want to hear. Media is going by a bunch of protesters who are completely on one side of this battle. A regular reporter has a lot of responsibilities which are ignored by these ireporters. It makes sense to use the ireport in the case of flight crash or an accident like that where Media cannot be there at the time of happening. But in issues like Iran, Media cannot take sides just because they are getting news from one side which is Internet media savvy and other side is not much interested on what they report.

I seriously feel we are hearing one side of the story here and the other side is ignored just because they dont feed the world media with their iReports.

We indians always had the best entertainment industry in the world, but rarely got noticed. We had the best actors, musicians, lyrics writers, dialogues, story writers last but the not the least directors. But we never got appreciation from rest of the world.

So today when A.R.Rahman won the award, he broke that history and gave a hope to all of us that in the years to come, we will be noticed more. Thanks and Congrats ARR. I was so happy to hear the world chennai in the oscar stage and in top of all, when he said "Ella pugallaum irraivanukae" in Tamil, i was stunned without words.

There are no parallels in this generation to compare his achievements. I can try to imagine few people coming somewhere near to him like Vishawanathan Anand, Paes/Bhupathi or like Tata/Ambani/NRN/Premji. But none can reach him. How can you give some music which everyone in the world loves.

நான் கடவுள் - பாலாவின் புது படம். மூன்று வருட உழைப்பு. மிக அருமை. கண்டிப்பாக பார்க்க வேண்டிய படம். உங்களுக்கு படம் பிடிகிறதோ இல்லையோ, எப்படி ரஜினி படம் பார்கிறோமோ,அது மாதிரி கண்டிப்பாய் பார்க்க வேண்டிய படம்.

ஆர்யா-வையும் பூஜா-வையும் தவிர மற்றவர்கள் எல்லாரும் சினிமாவுக்கு புதுசு. ஆனால் நடிப்பில் ஒரு குறை கிடையாது. அதில் தெரியுது பாலாவின் திறமை. கதை ஒன்றும் பெரிய கதை கிடையாது. ஒரு சிறுகதை. ஆனால் பாலாவின் இயக்கத்தில் மிக அற்புதமா வந்திருக்கு. படத்தில் மசாலா கிடையாது. பெரிய heroism கிடையாது. படத்தில் உங்களை தேட வேண்டாம். படத்தை பார்த்த பின் படத்தில் உள்ள எந்த கதாபாத்திரமாகவும் மாற எண்ணமாட்டிர்கள் . எனவே படத்தை பற்றி ஒரு முறை அறிந்து கொண்டு போவது உசிதம். There is no character which you can relate to yourself and there is no heroism which would inspire you.

குறை ஒன்றும் இல்லை என்று சொல்ல நினைத்தாலும் , ஒரு சிலவற்றை இன்னும் நன்றாக செய்திருக்கலாம். படம் இன்னும் முடியவில்லையோ என்ற எண்ணம் உள்ளது. காசியில் ஆர்யாவின் ௧௪ (14) வருட வாழ்கையை இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் காட்டி இருக்கலாம். பாடல்கள் கதையுடன் வெகுவாக ஒட்டவில்லை என்றே தோன்றுகிறது. பாலா U/A வாங்க படத்தை சிறிது சுருக்கி விட்டதாக சொல்கிறார்கள். உண்மையா பாலா?

மொத்தத்தில் ௪.௫/௫ ( 4.5/5).

A historic flim which is a milestone in tamil movie industry and will be a milestone with everyone associated with it. Hats off Bala.

A new movie from surya. Double act. Surya has done a wonderful job.

I drove 100 miles with a friend to watch the movie. He and me are the only people in the theater. Detroit is the only place where you can watch the movie alone. I enjoy watching it alone. You can enjoy the move without any disturbances like a child crying or a romantic couple making moves which you brings a வைத்தெரிச்சல் or a family discussing about the loan that they have to pay or for worst our own movie fans dancing and letting you not to enjoy the movie. A complete silence gives you the time and envirnment to feel he essence of the movie.

So there he is, Surya coming into the picture as a army commander. He is handsome in any role, but as a commander, he still reminds us காக்க காக்க. Then there is Simran as young surya's mother and old surya's wife. She looks old. Is it makeup or is it becuase she is really getting old? [:D]. Old Surya is in his death bed for couple of scenes and then he dies. Now young Surya (whose screen name is also Surya) starts to think about his father who is his rolemodel in everything. (Including in his romance). Parents leave a great impression on us...if you are not one of those who grew up in hostel, it is most likely you will see yourself in the movie...This is Gautam menon's "Thavami Thavam Irunthu + Autograph".

Rating of 3.5/5. I am not gonna write a review here as it didnt fall on one of the worst movies or on one of the best. :)

Dasavatharam

I am sitting now in a Biggby coffee shop opposite to the Novi theater where i saw Dasavatharam. My first reaction: Good. (Not a Wow you know).

So here goes my first movie review:

I wont reveal the plot, but i am telling you, there is very little to reveal. Kamal has tried to give a movie which is not a complete comedy like his panchanthanthram and also not every serious like Indian. But he failed to strike a balance and it turns out to be half cooked. (Scientific explanations makes you think it to be like "vikram" , his old movie, but bullets curing the cancer makes you to believe that he didnt want to give a logical moie).

Technology is used to the maximum extent. Too much of spending in that front which sometimes amazes you. Poor producer (Hope he really doesnt become poor and the movie gets him some money). At times, Camera moves at 80 miles/hour.

Music is good. Really doubt whether Himesh did all of them. "Mukundha Mukundha" is the one i remember after coming out the movie. Lyrics are classic. Vairamuthu and Valli have given their best. But i liked the lyrics in the song where the punjabi kamal performs in the stage.Background music might have been better. It fails to impress you. It fails to run with the fast camera.

Hats off to kamal. All his ten characters score. But sometimes you get bored of seeing him. Every character you see in the screen, you will try to figure out whether it is kamal. He scores there. He makes you believe that he can do any role.

Other actors just occupy the screen, they have very little role to play. Nagesh,Napolean everyone is used as a pickle in a Kamal lunch. :)

A strong story might have made me say "Wow". Overall Movie is just above ok. I really think there is no need for kamal doing 10 roles and he introduced a lot of roles just to make that count to 10. (To beat Shivaji's 9 role record) Just remembers the tamil proverb "Allauku Minchinal Audhamum Nanchu". This is definitely above any normal movie that you will see in Kollywood, but kamal should have done it better. Kamal as a actor wins your heart, but he fails (may be i shud say he didnt succeed) as a screenplay writer.

Overall if you go to the theater without expectations : 3/5
You went to theater to expect a "ullaga nayagan" movie : 2/5

Sorry Kamal.Better luck next time.

A day in Shols - 23rd Dec 2006

This is a pretty old narration. Had in my emails. Now that, there are good number of people, reading my blog, i thought i will publish it.

I never had an idea of writing something on the happenings in my life till that day….even this is going to be a boring one…and if u happen to read it..then it means u r in a Hit-list… J ya hit-list of people whom I can bore… (Names are changed…as I don’t want to embarrass my friends…)

I was in Chennai for the visa stamping….strange that Bangalore still don’t have a consulate…Thatz fine for me…with the long weekends around…I planned for a 3 day extra stay in Chennai…a place which I don’t like but where all the people whom I like live.. c

After my visa stamping was done, I called my sister and told her the happy news…Now I need to go back to guest house, where I was staying…Auto driver asked me for 120 rupees, for a place which he normally asks just 40…reason he told me is I am happy and I can pay more…I walked for about 500 meters to a bus stop and then again caught an auto to reach the guest house by paying 40.. J

That night I saw two of my friends who came to my guest house to see me…one was my college-project mate…who is now working in a small company after his MBA…other is working in Infosys..we just asked abt our health, work….and then they left in 10-20 mins…

The next day morning I was woken up by a call from Abhishek, a guy with whom I was staying for a yr, around the clock…the only time I was not with him was when he starts talking to his GF via his mobile….poor mobile…it was load tested by him… J…he called me up to say that he is busy….and he will try to meet me in the evening. I saw the time, it was eight. I called up sneha to make sure that she is coming to office….

I traveled by city bus to shols…a place where I attended my infy interview…a place which turned my life upside down…i went directly to sneha’s place disturbed her work for sometime…hmm she still looks like my own cute little sister..looks tired…but still the smile is at her face…hmm thou I don’t like Chennai..i would still want to come to Chennai if I can work with this girl… J….then I started roaming inside the dc…

I moved towards Mohan, a really “big” friend of me…thank god he hasn’t put weight after that...chatted with him for sometime and then saw Kumar..a short guy who still has that smiley face…these two guys are good friends of me, especially in the trainee days…I still wonder, how a tall guy from a small town (myself), a short guy with a little call center experience and a fat guy born & brought up in Chennai became good friends…something bonded us…and still binds us… We had nice chats about work…about the boring life…about the new crushes.. about the DCs…a small talk on a wide range of topics… then they had work…and I was pushed to move towards others…

I went to lunch with sneha and co…a lunch after 7 months with her…enjoyed every minute of it. Then I met some more friends…my batchmates….how different the life is for everyone of us…one of us is almost playing a PL role in his team…for one guy he got centre of excellence award and a handy cam…one guy is married and he is going to be a father in next 8 months…one guy has become so fat that I hardly recognize him…Other has lost his father and he is now supporting his family along with his tight schedule…his schedule is so tight that I hardly spoke to him…he is again close friend of me..when I say close, I am so sensitive in these friendships…I felt very bad, when I couldn’t speak to him…. L

Then I called up Rekha and asked her to come before her building, she was working with me in mng for sometime and now she is married and got settled in chennai…I couldn’t attend her marriage…saw her happy face…not much change…but ya I can sense that she is happy…a positive girl…in most of the other friendships, I was on the top…I have told them wht is right and wht is wrong…rarely got advice from them….but this is different…she is always positive and I have always looked for her to tell me whether I am doing it right…in the 20 mins chat with her…I rarely saw something negative…when I said bye to her, I seriously felt that married life will be very happy….she was very happy when I spoke abt her husband and when I spoke abe her in laws….truth or acting….that doesn’t matter..she proves a point…if u r happy or even if not, always try to be smart and keep smiling…Long live my friend…I learnt one more good thing from you (Be positive)..A friendship which I always wanted to become a good one for me…but which always stopped at a smile…till the EOL, I will be thinking that I missed a good friend... Last but not the least in that, I wanted a call from her to her home…I didn’t get it…may be my friendship was not that worth…. Whatever be to me she is a kohinoor diamond…which thou not with me as a friend….I will keep telling that “I know her” J

Then I called up sushmita and asked her to come to reception, a girl with whom I never…I reiterate I never interacted in the training days…she was so cute in the training days that she use to be one of the girls with whom I at least wanted to get introduced… J…I joined mng and she joined shols after training…suddenly we started chatting…we have chatted for hours…we became close, just by chatting…believe me, I don’t think I could never have become a friend of her, if I was in shols…with my shy character I could have never talked to her…we were very close that we shared all personal feelings…sometimes she was supportive when I was down….then she went thru a rough patch of life where everyone was cruel to her…then she consoled herself and she came back from all of them….thank god for giving her that strength… Now, I am in the big reception waiting for her…thinking all these stuff about her….how she will be…the same old cute girl?...the wait wasn’t a long one, she came in 10 mins…hmm there was a shadow of sorrow reflected in her face, the cute spectacle is not there…she has lost some weight…overall I promise you, if you have mental problems, that spoils your health….she has changed…she is matured now…she talks slowly…thinks before speaking every word…she is bold than before…she now knows whom to believe and whom not to believe… poor girl….she might have lost the charm….but she still has the confidence to live in the world of cruel people…couple of yrs before I liked her for her charm, now I like her for her confidence… May god bless her and let her live a peaceful life from here on…

I called up few more collegemates and went to their buildings to meet them….we shared some gossips, news, cribs….nothing new…everyone loves this work for the sal, but one thing is common, this is not the job we dreamt……all the charisma the job had, all are gone…I shared few more “All the best”.

I saw a school friend of me, who just said a “hi” and moved as thou he sees me daily. L

I joined sneha again, gave her the gifts that I got for her and told her that I will come to her home tomm…I left her cubicle with a heavy heart…I duno y…I spoke very less to her…have I started showing my shyness to her too? No no way…she is not the usual friend I have…was it bcoz we always shared most of joy thru msgr even when we were in same project? Dunnoo…but I spoke very less…she might have thought that I am changed…but no…I still love her as a sister…but sometimes when u meet a friend after yrs, u don’t have many things to speak..i sat in her cubicle for sometime silently…a silent which kills me even now…shud I have spoken a little bit more? Dunno…only she has to tell…but I am sure I am going to miss her for few more yrs atleast… L… I didn’t get a snap with most of my friends. It was too much to ask for a snap with everyone. One snap that I took with sneha also got blurred... L

When I stepped out, I felt that god is a magician. All of us for whom the professional life started at the same moment, now it is totally different…some with good news, some going thru some bad patches….life is different for each and everyone…some gr8 friendships and some friendships which are missed…some cute love stories…some betrayals…but one good thing this job has thought them…smile even if u see a stranger. May be thatz y all of them smiled at me…

I was going back by city bus to Guest house…the bus was overloaded…on a bus stop, a set of guys boarded the bus in footsteps…one guy was hanging in the number plate…believe me…I am saying the truth…he had his legs over a 1 centimeter width number plate and his hands were holding one of the window bars…he is no where inside the bus…not even a centimeter of him… then he grabbed the window bars and came inside the bus through the window…first time I am seeing a guy coming inside the bus thru a window…now here is the climax…he came inside and gave his books to girl….(the window thru which he came inside is where she was sitting)…she asked “y not in next bus?” and our guy replies “but you are in this bus only na..”…wht do u think the girls reaction is? She smiled and blushed.. I was shocked to see that…there was 50% chance for him to fell down and the girl is happy for his act and she didn’t even say a word that “don’t repeat it again..” L I seriously feel that the girl is time passing with this guy…if u love a person, u will hit him in face if he does like this… this is one more incident where I felt we need to teach our kids more abt love and sex…just an infatuation leads to these kind of nonsense activities…

I came back to guest house and called up Abhishek, he said he will be in guest house in 5-10 mins. He came; we spoke abt the old days, new happenings and within 5 mins, we started and we left the guest house and he dropped me in saidapet bus-stand and he went to his native place by bus. One more good friendship….I went to velachery from there and slept off….

So thatz it…a day @ shols….a day with my friends….Hey r u still reading? God, there are people who don’t have work at all…they read whatever they get…:)
